We C.A.R.E. Employee Award 2015 In 2002, the “We C.A.R.E.” (Continually Awarding and Recognizing Employees) campaign was launched within the Division of Administration and Finance. Employees are nominated and the We C.A.R.E. committee chooses a recipient that represents Administration and Finance’s goal of delivering consistently good service to our various customers and helping achieve excellence in the workplace.
This year’s recipient joined Administration and Finance in 2004. She is highly responsive and supportive as an agent of customer service, going above and beyond on a daily basis to help customers with the needs. Her achievements include the production and maintenance of strong, solid documentation for our processes; rigorous testing of of upgrades; strong and professional oversight of FIP processes such as our RMR functions and maintenance of FOAPAL elements–in that final task, she regularly beats FIP’s turnaround time on FOAPAL change requests (which is 24 hours) by 23 hours or more, often completing tasks with a level of efficiency that has ripple effect on what other departments are able to accomplish. She encourages camaraderie in the office and proudly wears her Aggie gear. Please join us in congratulating Lynne McClure-Flores.
2nd Quarter 2015 Asprey Award Please join us in congratulating Fred Johnson, Chingder Yeh, and Bruce Ernst on winning the the 2nd Quarter 2015 Asprey Award. This award is funded by a generous donation from the late Jo and Bob Asprey. This award is given quarterly in recognition of ICT employees who have displayed outstanding service. Bob Asprey was an employee of ICT during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Fred, Chingder and Bruce were nominated as a cross-functional team. They are the storage and database “gods” who recovered the university’s production data without data loss during the Great Gas Blast of 2015. They put in many hours into recovering hardware and databases, thus saving the university many hours, days, or weeks’ worth of work to reprocess or manually re-enter data that could have been forever lost. Their actions were basically a live Disaster Recovery operation without notice or planning. They acted professionally, positively, and worked tirelessly, setting a great example for ICT and NMSU. Congratulations Fred, Chingder and Bruce!
2010 Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award Nominations are currently being sought for the 2010 Roberts Memorial Staff Award. Established in 1983, an annual cash award is provided from the Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Endowment fund in recognition of staff providing dedicated, outstanding service to the university. This year, the award will be presented to a non-exempt employee. Nominations are being accepted until August 25, 2015, and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Please refer to the website for eligibility criteria and the nomination forms.
Administration and Finance Semi-Annual Meeting Come and hear President Carruthers lead the Vision 2020 Strategic Planning Forum at the Administration and Finance Spring Semi-Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 26th from 3:30-5:00PM and Wednesday, May 27th from 8:00 AM-9:30AM. Both sessions will be held in the Domenici Hall, room 109, Yates Theatre. Please work with your supervisor to ensure appropriate coverage during your absence. We hope to see you there!
November Employee Council meeting to be held Thursday
The Employee Council will hold its regular monthly meeting from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Milton Hall Room 85. All employees are welcome to attend. The meeting is also broadcast live on Adobe Connect. Employees can watch and participate via Adobe Connect at http://nmsu.adobeconnect.com/employeecouncil2015/.
Tough Enough To Wear Pink Fashion Show Luncheon 10/20/2016
The Administration and Finance Leadership Team purchased tickets for the Tough Enough To Wear Pink Fashion Show Luncheon, and held a drawing to give away tickets to seven lucky A&F employees.
EXCITE Employee Award 2016
In 2016, the A&F Employee Recognition and Rewards EXCITE Program (Engagement, Excellence, Communication, Integrity, Teamwork, Effectiveness) was launched within the Division of Administration and Finance. The award is made possible by the generous contributions of past and present Administration and Finance employees. Employees are nominated year-round and the AF Voice committee chooses a recipient that represents Administration and Finance’s goal of delivering consistently good service to our various customers and helping achieve excellence in the workplace.
The EXCITE award recipient joined Administration and Finance in February 1994. Chel-Marie Barela is the Manager of ID Card Services and she contributes to student success by providing support “behind the scenes.” The results of Chel’s work are broad and support many areas at NMSU including faculty, staff, dining services, housing, student government, and summer conference guests. ID Card Services in one way or another has an impact on each of us as well as every student at main campus, DACC and faculty and staff members, every temporary employee and many affiliates. That is quite an impact on NMSU! Chel works tirelessly to make sure Aggie Welcome and Orientation, and DACC student orientation participants receive their Aggie ID cards. She is dedicated to providing the best customer service possible and ALWAYS goes the extra mile. Chel is a hardworking, focused and a responsible manager. Congratulations to the first recipient of the EXCITE award!
Call for nominations for ‘A’ Mountain Award
Is there someone in your office or in another department that represents qualities of integrity, dedication, skill, endurance, resilience, determination and passion in performance of their duties? If so, nominate them for Employee Council’s “A” Mountain staff award. Nominations are now being accepted for regular NMSU staff employees. Employee Council is looking for nominees who demonstrate the following traits:
- Innovation: Exceptional efforts to improve the university’s effectiveness through enhanced systems or processes.
- Responsiveness: Resourceful, effective behaviors/actions demonstrated in reaction to an unforeseen circumstance or extraordinary situation; timeliness.
- Service: Exceptional efforts to provide superior service to all “customers.”
- Spirit: Positive outlook; supportive of NMSU’s initiatives and goals.
- Teamwork: Ability to work with others in another department/division toward a shared goal; ability to recognize diverse strengths.
- Above and beyond: Demonstrated service or support that is not normally expected as part of their everyday job responsibilities.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to submit nominations through http://empcouncil.research.nmsu.edu/. Please submit nominations by 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Nominations will be reviewed by Employee Council. This award will be presented at the NMSU Employee Picnic Oct. 14. Awardee receives a commemorative NMSU plaque.

1st Quarter 2016 Asprey Award Winner
Please join us in congratulating Matt Henderson on winning the ICT 1st Quarter 2016 Asprey Award. This award is funded by a generous donation from the late Jo and Bob Asprey. This award is given quarterly in recognition of ICT employees who have displayed outstanding service. Bob Asprey was an employee of ICT during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Here is what was said of Matt: When Matt Henderson was hired, we were preparing for Mike Thompson’s retirement. Mike was responsible for our student web server and our personal (Student, Faculty & Staff) wordpress server.The first few months that Matt was on board he spent learning Mike’s methods and soaking in the reasons and philosophies of service to our students. Once Matt took the reins he started experimenting with ways of improving and simplifying the system. We discovered that Matt had a calling for this angle of Systems Administration. He became our liaison to ICT’s PDS group and the liaison to University Communications – regularly engaging with them about www.nmsu.edu and our departmental WordPress mechanism, envisioned and built by Ian Logan.
Most recently, Matt Henderson picked up a deceptively difficult task. To move all of the websites off of our old www.nmsu.edu server. (AKA joebob.nmsu.edu) This is a project that had been in the works for easily 6 years. Matt worked with many, many, people to guarantee his success. He built new websites on alternate servers, he convinced some groups to move their own content elsewhere, he faced excuses, and he forged directly into the middle of some pretty interesting “territory” battles. I witnessed a lot of these events first hand, and most people would have given up. It’s that kind of “can do” attitude that is really respect. Matt used every one of his considerable talents to accomplish the goal.
Nominations Sought for Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award
Nominations are currently being sought for the Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award. This year, the award will be presented to a non-exempt employee who meets the criteria listed below.
Eligibility criteria: Nominees may not be faculty members, nor can they be a member of either the Administrative Council or the Academic Dean’s Council. Nominees must have five or more consecutive years of service with the university. Depending on the award cycle, the selection criteria alternates between non-exempt staff or exempt staff. For 2016, the Roberts Award will honor a non-exempt employee.
In addition to the requirements above, employees can be nominated based on the following traits:
• A highly motivated person who is a self-starter.
• A person who exhibits dedication to the university.
• A person who will remain at the university after receiving the award and serve to influence others through behavior that exemplifies sincerity, motivation and dedication.
• A person who not only performs a specific job, but who also serves the university and community as a responsible citizen.
The nomination form, with no more than five pages of supporting information, should be received by the Center for Learning & Professional Development by email at email@example.com or at mail code MSC 3TD no later than Aug. 12.
